Terms of Use

Last updated: 17 October 2026

Please read this first.

  • Work for Trades is a marketplace and connection service only. We put homeowners and contractors in touch with tradespeople, and we list public tenders.
  • We do not employ, supervise or vet tradespeople beyond basic listing checks. We give no warranty about any tradesperson's skill, insurance, qualifications, accreditations or credentials. You must check these yourself.
  • Any contract for work is solely between the homeowner or contractor and the tradesperson. We are not a party to it.
  • You use the site and arrange any work entirely at your own risk. We accept no responsibility for workmanship, quality, prices, payments, delays, disputes, damage, injury, loss or the outcome of any job arranged through the site.
  • Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, or limits liability that cannot legally be limited (see section 10). We do remain responsible for our own breach of these terms or our own negligence, as explained there.

1. About us and these terms

Work for Trades (workfortrades.co.uk) is operated by Pioneer Contractors Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 16474824 (registered office address available on request from hello@workfortrades.co.uk) ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@workfortrades.co.uk.

By creating an account or using the site you agree to these terms, our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Job Posting Rules. If you don't agree, don't use the site.

2. What the site does, and what it doesn't

  • Tender listings: we show public contract notices taken from government sources (see section 7).
  • Job board: homeowners and contractors can post jobs; tradespeople can respond with messages and quotes. When a poster accepts a response, we share both parties' contact details.

We are an introducer only. We do not carry out, arrange, manage, inspect or guarantee any work. We are not an employer, agent, broker or representative of any user. Tradespeople are independent businesses and are not our employees or contractors. Any "basic listing checks" we carry out (such as checking an email address or removing obvious spam) are not a check of identity, competence, insurance, qualifications or trustworthiness, and must not be relied on as such.

3. Accounts

You must be 18 or over and, if you use the site for a business, authorised to act for it. Give accurate information and keep it up to date. Keep your password secret; you're responsible for activity on your account. One person or business per account.

4. Your responsibilities

All users must deal honestly and lawfully with each other and follow the Job Posting Rules.

Homeowners and contractors are responsible for choosing a tradesperson and must make their own checks before hiring, for example: references and reviews, proof of public liability insurance, relevant registrations (such as Gas Safe, NICEIC/NAPIT, FENSA, or fire-stopping third-party certification), a written quote and contract, and any planning permission, building regulations approval or party wall requirements.

Tradespeople are responsible for their own work, prices, quotes, insurance, qualifications, health and safety, tax, and compliance with law (including the Consumer Contracts Regulations and Consumer Rights Act 2015 when working for consumers). Tradespeople must hold any registrations and insurance required for the work they quote for.

5. Acceptable use

You must not: post false, misleading, defamatory, discriminatory or unlawful content; post fake reviews or fake jobs; harass, threaten or spam other users; harvest other users' contact details or use them for anything other than the job concerned; scrape, copy or resell site content or data in bulk; try to get around our contact-sharing, moderation or security controls; upload malware; or use the site to compete with us by copying it. We may remove content, suspend or close accounts that break these terms, without notice where reasonable.

6. Content you post

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and adapt it (for example resizing photos) to run and promote the site. You confirm you have the right to post it, including photos. We don't check all content before it appears and aren't responsible for content posted by users.

7. Tender data

Contract notices come from Find a Tender, Contracts Finder and Public Contracts Scotland. They contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/). We add trade tags, distances and summaries automatically; these may be wrong or incomplete. Distances are measured from the buyer's address, not necessarily the site of the work. Notices may be changed, extended or withdrawn by the buyer. Always check the official notice before deciding to bid. We don't guarantee that any listing is complete, accurate or current, or that you will win any work. We are not connected with or endorsed by the government bodies that publish the notices.

What you pay for. The notices themselves are free to read on the government websites above, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Open Government Licence. Our Pro subscription pays for our own service: finding, matching and filtering notices to your trades and area, presenting them in one place, saved tenders and the weekly digest. It is not a charge for the public data itself. Without Pro you see a short preview of each notice (title, buyer, area, trade, closing date and value band).

8. Subscriptions and payments

  • Plans: full tender details on this site (description, lots, documents, contacts and official notice links), saved tenders and the weekly digest (shown on the site, and also sent by email where we offer that; you can turn the email off at any time) need the Pro plan: £27.99 a month, including VAT where applicable. Introductory offer: new subscribers pay £19.99 for their first month, then £27.99 a month. The offer is applied automatically at checkout, is limited in number and may end at any time; once it ends, new subscriptions start at £27.99 a month. Tender previews and the job board stay free. Prices are shown before you pay.
  • Payment: taken by Stripe when you subscribe and then on the same date each month. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel.
  • Cancelling: you can cancel at any time from your Account page ("Manage or cancel subscription", which opens Stripe's secure billing portal) or by emailing hello@workfortrades.co.uk. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then. We don't refund part-periods except as set out below or where the law requires.
  • 14-day cancellation right (consumers only): if you're buying as a consumer (not for a business), the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you 14 days from the start of your subscription to cancel for any reason. If you ask us to start the service straight away and then cancel within 14 days, we'll refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the service provided up to cancellation. To cancel, use the billing portal or email hello@workfortrades.co.uk with a clear statement that you want to cancel. Most tradespeople subscribe for business purposes and don't have this right.
  • Price changes: we'll give at least 30 days' notice of any price rise, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

Using the job board (posting jobs or responding to them) is currently free.

Referrals

Members with a tradesperson account may share a personal referral link. If a person who has not previously held a Work for Trades account or paid us signs up through that link, and their first subscription payment is made and not refunded or disputed within 14 days, the referring member receives a credit equal to one month of Pro (currently £27.99) against future subscription invoices. Credit is applied to a Pro subscription; credit earned while you are not subscribed is kept for 6 months. The referred member receives our standard introductory offer only; referral rewards cannot be combined with other discounts. Credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, are limited to 12 per member per year and expire 12 months after they are earned. Self-referrals, duplicate or fake accounts, and referrals obtained by spam, unsolicited bulk messages or misleading claims are not allowed; we may withhold or reverse credits and close accounts where we reasonably believe the scheme has been abused. We don't show the referring member's name to the people they invite. Pioneer Contractors Ltd may change or end the scheme with 30 days' notice; credits already earned will be honoured.

9. Disputes between users

Any dispute about a job, a quote, payment, workmanship, materials, delays, damage or anything else is between the users concerned. We are not obliged to take part in, investigate, mediate or settle it, though we may remove content or accounts if our rules are broken. Consumers with a complaint about a tradesperson may be able to use the trader's trade body, Citizens Advice (0808 223 1133) or the courts. Section 10.7 explains that you agree not to bring claims against us about disputes with other users. If your complaint is about how *we* have run the site, see section 15.

10. Our liability

10.1 No liability for other users or their work. We are not a party to anything agreed between users, and we do not do the work. So, to the fullest extent permitted by law, we, our owners, directors, employees and operators accept no liability whatsoever for any loss, damage, injury, death, cost, expense, claim or dispute caused by, or arising between, users, including anything arising from any work, service, quote, agreement, payment or interaction between a homeowner or contractor and a tradesperson found through the site. This includes (without limit) poor or defective workmanship, unfinished work, property damage, theft, personal injury, non-payment, overcharging, delay, and any act, omission, statement or default of any user.

What we are responsible for. Section 10.1 is about what other users do. It does not remove our responsibility for our own breach of these terms or our own failure to use reasonable care and skill in running the site. That responsibility is subject to the limits in sections 10.4 and 10.5 and the exceptions in section 10.6.

10.2 Own risk; no warranties about users. You use the site and arrange any work entirely at your own risk. We make no promise, representation or warranty about any user, including any tradesperson's identity, skill, competence, insurance, qualifications, registrations, accreditations, credentials, reliability or honesty, or about any job post. You must make your own checks.

10.3 The site itself. The site and tender data are provided "as is" and "as available". We don't guarantee the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of viruses, or that any information on it is accurate, complete or up to date.

10.4 Business users. If you use the site for business, to the fullest extent permitted by law we are not liable for any loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, opportunity, goodwill or data, or any indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you in any 12-month period for anything arising out of or in connection with the site or these terms is limited to the subscription fees you paid us in that period (or £100 if you paid nothing).

10.5 Consumers. If you're a consumer, we're only responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our own breach of these terms or our own failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss caused by other users. We provide the site for domestic and private use; we're not liable to consumers for business losses.

10.6 What we do not exclude. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

10.7 Release from claims about disputes between users. If you have a dispute with another user, you agree that you will not bring, and you release us (and our owners, directors, employees and operators) from, any claim, demand or liability arising from that dispute. This does not apply to a claim that we ourselves broke these terms or were negligent, and it is subject to section 10.6.

11. Tradesperson promises and indemnity

11.1 What tradespeople promise us. If you use the site as a tradesperson, you confirm to us, and must keep true for as long as you use the site, that:

  • you hold, and will keep in force, insurance suitable for the work you quote for, including public liability insurance and any other cover the law or the job requires;
  • you hold all licences, registrations, certifications and accreditations needed for that work (for example Gas Safe, NICEIC/NAPIT, FENSA or fire-stopping third-party certification);
  • you have the qualifications, skill, experience and competence to do the work properly and safely;
  • you will carry out work lawfully, including health and safety, building regulations, waste and consumer law; and
  • everything in your profile, quotes and messages is accurate and not misleading, and you'll update it if anything changes.

We don't check these promises for homeowners or contractors. We rely on them, and we may suspend or close your account if any of them turns out to be untrue.

11.2 Tradesperson indemnity. If you use the site as a tradesperson, you agree to compensate us for any claims, losses, damages and reasonable costs (including legal costs) we suffer because of: any claim by a homeowner, contractor or anyone else arising from your work, quotes, services, conduct or dealings with them; any of your promises in section 11.1 being untrue; or your breach of these terms or the law.

11.3 Other business users. If you use the site for any other business purpose, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable costs we suffer because of your content, your work, or your breach of these terms or the law.

12. Suspension and closure

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts or remove content that breaks these terms, or if we stop running the site. If we close a paid account for reasons other than your breach, we'll refund any unused prepaid period.

Paying tradespeople. Before we suspend or close a paid account, we'll tell you in writing why and, where practical, give you notice and a chance to respond or put things right. We may act straight away, and give reasons afterwards, where there's suspected fraud, a serious or repeated breach, a risk to other users' safety, or where the law requires us to.

13. How listings are ordered

  • Tenders in your feed are filtered by the trades, postcode and travel distance you choose, then shown with the soonest closing date first. Area and council pages also list open tenders by closing date.
  • Posted jobs are shown newest first, filtered by trade and area.
  • Responses to a job are shown to the poster in the order they were received.
  • Paid plans do not currently buy a higher position or extra prominence for any tender, job or tradesperson. A paid plan gives access to features such as the weekly digest and saved tenders. If we ever let paid plans or payments affect ranking or visibility, we'll say so here before it starts and clearly label any promoted listings.

14. Reporting illegal or harmful content

If you see content on the site that you think is illegal, harmful or breaks these terms or the Job Posting Rules, use the Report button on the job or response, or email hello@workfortrades.co.uk with a link and a short explanation. We aim to review reports within 2 working days, and sooner for anything that suggests a risk to someone's safety. We remove content that we reasonably believe is illegal or breaks our rules, and we may suspend or close the accounts involved and, where appropriate, tell the police or other authorities. If we remove your content, we'll normally tell you why, and you can ask us to look at the decision again by replying to that message.

15. Complaints about us

If you're unhappy with how we've run the site (for example billing, moderation or your account), email complaints@workfortrades.co.uk with your account email and what went wrong. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to give you a full reply within 14 days. If we can't resolve it, we may offer to refer it to an independent mediation service such as CEDR (the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution). Mediation is optional for both sides, and you can still go to court. This process is for complaints about us; disputes with other users are covered by section 9.

16. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll post changes here and, for significant changes, email account holders at least 30 days before they apply to paid plans. If you keep using the site after changes take effect, you accept them.

17. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. Nobody else has rights under them (Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 excluded). If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.

18. Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts and mandatory consumer protections of your local law still apply.
