Job Posting Rules

Last updated: 17 October 2026

Important: what we are, and what we're not

  • Work for Trades is a marketplace and connection service only. We help homeowners and contractors find tradespeople.
  • We do not employ, supervise or vet tradespeople beyond basic listing checks, and we give no warranty about their skill, insurance, qualifications or credentials. Check these yourself before hiring.
  • Any agreement for work is solely between you and the tradesperson. We're not a party to it.
  • You arrange work entirely at your own risk. We accept no liability for workmanship, quality, damage, injury, loss, cost, disputes or the outcome of any job arranged through the site. Full details are in section 10 of the Terms of Use, which also explains the liability that the law does not allow us to exclude. We remain responsible for our own breach of the terms or our own negligence. Your statutory rights are not affected.

These rules apply to everyone who posts jobs or responds to them, alongside our Terms of Use.

1. What you can post

  • Real jobs that you genuinely want done, in England, Scotland or Wales.
  • Homeowners: work at a property you own, rent (with permission) or are responsible for.
  • Contractors: genuine subcontract packages you are authorised to offer.
  • One job per post. Don't repost the same job repeatedly.

2. What you must not post

  • Fake, test or "price-fishing" jobs with no intention to hire.
  • Phone numbers, emails, websites or social media handles in the title, description or photos. Contact details are shared only after the poster accepts a response.
  • Your full address, house number, or photos showing house numbers, people, children or vehicle registration plates.
  • Illegal work, or work that needs a registered trader (e.g. gas work) offered to unregistered people.
  • Discriminatory wording (for example about race, religion, sex, age or disability).
  • Offensive, abusive, misleading or defamatory content, adverts, or recruitment for jobs (employment).
  • Requests to pay cash to avoid tax, or other unlawful arrangements.

3. Rules for tradespeople responding

  • Only respond to jobs you're qualified, registered and insured to do. By responding you confirm the promises in section 11.1 of the Terms of Use: suitable insurance, the licences and registrations the work needs, the skill to do it safely, lawful working, and an accurate profile.
  • You're responsible for claims from homeowners or contractors about your work, and you agree to cover us if they're brought against us (section 11.2 of the Terms).
  • Give honest quotes and information about yourself. No fake reviews or claims.
  • Use contact details only for the job concerned. Don't add people to mailing lists or pass details on.
  • When working for a homeowner (a consumer), follow consumer law, including giving cancellation information where the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 apply.

4. Before you hire: checks we recommend

We don't do these for you. Please:

  • Ask for proof of public liability insurance, and check it's current.
  • Check registrations where relevant: Gas Safe, NICEIC/NAPIT (electrical), FENSA/CERTASS (windows), TrustMark, or third-party certification for fire-stopping.
  • Ask for references or photos of past work, and read independent reviews.
  • Get a written quote and contract setting out the work, price, timescale and payment stages.
  • Avoid paying large sums up front.
  • Check whether you need planning permission, building regulations approval or a party wall agreement.

5. Photos

Up to the stated limit, JPG/PNG/WebP. Only upload photos you took or have permission to use. We may remove photos that break these rules.

6. Reporting and moderation

Use the Report button on any job or response that breaks these rules or looks illegal or harmful, or email hello@workfortrades.co.uk. We aim to review reports within 2 working days, faster where someone's safety may be at risk. We may remove content, or warn, suspend or close accounts, and we may pass serious matters to the police. If we remove your content we'll normally tell you why, and paying tradespeople get written reasons before a suspension except in urgent cases (see sections 12 and 14 of the Terms of Use). We don't moderate content before it appears. Moderation doesn't make us responsible for users' conduct or work.

7. How jobs and responses are shown

Jobs are listed newest first, filtered by trade and area. Responses are shown to the poster in the order received. Paying for a plan does not currently move a tradesperson's response or profile higher. See section 13 of the Terms of Use.

8. Disputes and complaints

Disagreements about a job are between you and the other user; we don't settle them (section 9 of the Terms), and you agree not to bring claims against us about them unless we broke our own terms or were negligent (section 10.7). Complaints about how *we* run the site go to complaints@workfortrades.co.uk; we'll acknowledge within 5 working days, reply in full within 14 days, and may offer optional mediation, for example through CEDR (section 15).

9. Limits

To stop spam, there are limits on how many jobs you can post and responses you can send each day.

10. Contact
